Not A War
I want to tell you
that the end of love
is not a war with victors
although there might be sides.
I want to tell you
that while the wounded act defeated,
the intact may feel justified,
having never looked around
at the shells of bullets and homes
torn down bridges and bombed out holes
and the hardened faces
of the once loved
who know the truth
about the end not being a battle
but an earthquake
that doesn’t choose what it destroys.
